The Extinguished Flame
Once, she carried a flame that warmed everything around her.
She gave light freely, believing that warmth would be returned with warmth. She remained loyal through cold seasons, protected the fire during difficult nights, and continued shining even when the room around her offered little comfort.
But he treated the flame as though it could never disappear.
Each broken promise poured a little water over it. Every unfair act weakened its glow. Every cruel word left another trail of smoke. Still, she kept trying to relight herself because she remembered how brightly she had once burned for him.
Eventually, even the strongest flame could no longer survive being extinguished repeatedly.
Then darkness filled the room.
He looked around and complained that she had become cold, distant, and quiet. He searched for the warmth she once gave him and wondered why it no longer reached him.
But he had forgotten that darkness does not always arrive by itself.
Sometimes it is created by the same hands that repeatedly pour water over the light and then demand that it continue burning.
Now he may bring matches, promises, or temporary tenderness, hoping to restore what once existed. Yet a flame cannot be commanded to return simply because the person who extinguished it has finally noticed the cold.
She did not stop shining without a reason.
She simply reached the moment when preserving her last spark became more important than warming the person who kept putting it out.
